Katherine Gross, MPaff, is a research associate with the American Institutes of Research (AIR) in the Youth, Family, and Community Development program area. Ms. Gross’ interest in juvenile justice stems from her experiences and observations as an early literacy instructor in the Baltimore City Public Schools; the prevalence of harmful exclusionary discipline and the near-absence of trauma-informed care led her to pursue a course of graduate policy studies, concentrating on the intersections of education and juvenile justice.
