An Overview of Statutory and Regulatory Requirements for Monitoring Facilities for Compliance with the Core Protections of the JJDP Act, September 2019

The purpose of this document is to assist states in monitoring and achieving compliance with the core requirements specified in the Formula Grants Program authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA) (34 U.S.C. §§ 11131-11133). Should anything within this document conflict with any provision of the JJDPA or its implementing regulation at 28 C.F. R. Part 31, Subpart A, the statutory and/or regulatory provision will prevail. Please note that this document describes the requirements applicable to awards made for fiscal year (FY) 2019 and previous years. This document does not apply to awards made for FY 2020 and subsequent years, as it does not incorporate amendments to the JJDPA made by the Juvenile Justice Reform Act of 2018 (Pub. L. No. 115-385), most of which take effect on October 1, 2019.
